Job Description: Editor/Writer
What are we looking for?
The Bastion aims to be an international co-operative news and media organization. By
collaborating with similarly driven individuals/organizations from across the world, we aspire to
present journalism steeped in quality research. At The Bastion, we want to add something new to
existing conversations and, as often as possible, start new ones. We wish to become
change-makers in the field of journalism, where research and well-informed opinions are of
the highest priority. At the end of the day, we want to make information broadcasting
innovative while reinstituting public faith in journalism and the free press.
Responsibilities:
An Editor will have to oversee the editorial process: including draft edits to final fact-checks.
The editor must also write regularly for The Bastion. He/she will also have to maintain deadlines
and vet articles written by applicant writers.
As of now, we have chosen three topics to focus our expertise in: Environment, Education and
Sports. The Bastion aims to become a leader when it comes to research, expertise and opinion in
these fields. These fields form a core part of the editorial content that an Editor will have to
create and curate:
Environment: This section will not just focus on broad environmental issues that
concern our society, but will primarily address issues involving analysis of policy,
spending and implementation, etc. related to this field.
Education: This section will look at education, again, in terms of policy, inequalities,
access, etc. The scope of this topic is massive; it can expand into critically assessing
present day educational structures to the private schools vs. public schools debates.
Sports: With increasing amounts of money being raised and spent in the sporting world,
this section will look at policies, impact, spending inequalities etc. in the world of sports.
Discussion Series: We are also in the process of launching a new product, which is
modeled after a debate. This section aims to give multiple perspectives on topical issues
across the world and will require the writer to give a well-researched opinion on the
same.
Skills Required:
• Great command of English and strong proofreading skills
• Good knowledge of the respective research areas
• Adept at analyzing data
• Capable of understanding interdisciplinary links between the three research areas
• Familiar with evaluating research methodology and key data to ensure accuracy of
reports
• Good communication skills, both written and oral
All opinion pieces will be published separately and regularly in our Opinion section on the site.
All we require is an impactful argument/insight built upon sound research and logic.
Work Location:
• Work from Home
Stipend Details:
• No Stipend.
• Internship Certificate & Letter of Recommendation will be given upon request.
Overall Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per week
