At Caarya, we have built an ecosystem of entrepreneurs, start-ups, technical specialists, mentors from different walks of life to assist college students to easily avail guidance and exposure necessary to build their own career path that will both give them success and happiness.
We believe that theoretical knowledge should be supplemented with a work-study program that focuses on inculcating transferable skills among students.
In these changing times where the impact of the new Indian Education Policy, the gig economy, and entrepreneurship as a job role are rapidly shaping the future, our initiatives are the tools for the students and colleges to be better prepared for tomorrow.
Our Initiatives
Fusion: Immersive learning & putting their knowledge into practice are skills students would carry with them throughout their professional career. At Fusion, we introduce them to projects where they are exposed to the real work culture and work alongside professional teams.
Labs: Innovation is the backbone of progress. Here, students will be exposed to problems people are trying to solve for a better society through innovation. From gender rights to personal robots, they engage in active useful research & innovation.
Experience: A wholesome experience designed for a student to explore their interests and find their calling. Engaging with entrepreneurs, investors, NGOs, engaging in community activities & networking will give them a foothold in the professional world before you graduate. The probability of meeting future employers, useful connections to get started in their career will all be possible here.
Some points we discussed today:
· The work-study program is crafted for undergraduate college students of the first year, second year, and third year.
· It has a minimum of 8+ months of learning after which we have the possibility of summer internships and full-time placements.
· We will teach the students Transferable Skills, a set of skills that is learned by exposure to real-time projects and mentors. The skills range from Intentional Learning, Critical Thinking, Complex Problem Solving, Design Skills, Verbal, and Written Communication Skills, Leadership, and much more.
· We are approaching one college per city and only one of the best ones from each city and taking 20-25 students for special skill-set roles.
· The summer internships and placements will be based on the skill-set and performance of the student.
· The technical skill-sets range from Content Creation, Content Development, Content Writing, UX, and UI Designing to Graphic Designing, Video Editing, and Full Stack Development.
· An added point I forgot to mention during our discussion- we also have Volunteer Programs for environmental campaigns for which we do not have any student limit.
· Any student enrolling for the learning program will be certified by Caarya.
· We will help any student who has a start-up idea with know-how and mentorship so that they can get their prototype ready for the industry.
· The program is flexible with the student’s academic module.
Besides these points I would like to address some specific queries you had regarding the program:
1. Why are we keeping the 8 months of learning experience free for students and what is our business interest/model? (as the students are completely our responsibility after they enroll)
We are running a pilot beta version of the program at this stage. We are approaching very few Tier 1 colleges with a long-established learning culture like St Xavier’s College. There would be a membership fee later for students to join the curriculum but that would not be applicable to Tier 1 colleges that participated in our beta program.
2. We are we not calling it an internship, so why are we giving it a name called Work-Study? (since an internship can also be for 8 months and be flexible with academic schedule)
An internship is when you stop college and work somewhere for a particular period or there is lot of friction in schedules between classes and the internship. A work-study, as the name suggests is working while studying, a blend between academics and working without any friction with academic schedules/classes/exams. This is exactly what teaches a student transferable skills, unlike an internship. Work-study programs are extremely common abroad. In India, the concept is very new.
3. Can Third Year students who are done with their courses and awaiting a placement apply for this program?
Yes.
4. Can post-graduate students apply?
Not right now.
5. Who will be mentoring and teaching the students?
Industry experts at Caarya.
6. What happens to students who do not make the cut for a full-time placement after 8 months?
They will be given a certificate of completion and a letter of appreciation for the completion of the work-study program.
7. Are we using your college student database to outsource our own projects?
Students can apply for the work-study program just like they would show interest to apply in any other internship or job and upon selection, they would be given real-world projects to work on.
A student of the first year or third year is not generally talented enough to crack or deliver great performance in real-world projects, they need hand-held guidance to enhance their skill-sets ranging from Effective Listening to Verbal Skills or Complex Problem Solving or Written Skills. Even if we wanted to outsource, we won’t be able to, unless they are ready enough themselves. By the time they are ready enough their chances of getting a job through your campus recruitment drive is 100x more than it would otherwise be. The alternative scenario is they just do classes for three years straight and then apply to a job or campus placement with only an internship/no internship/attendance issues in classes due to internship etc. Since we are running a pilot version of this program at this stage, we are not making a financial profit through this.
8. What happens immediately after a student enrolls, how is it taken forward or how is the work started?
