 Seeking a High School Teacher (Economics and History)


Introduction:

Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community provides a loving home and quality education to local children who are first-generation learners. Jhamtse Gatsal is a right living laboratory to practice the principles of love and compassion in raising and educating our children through an integrated educational model which nurtures the mind, heart, body, and speech of children and adults. We aspire to live mindful and sustainable lives in tune with local practices as well as grow some of our own food organically and harness solar energy to power some of our buildings. Currently, the Community has 103 children who are studying in Classes PreK to 12 as well as graduates who are studying in colleges across the country. The Community is located in the remote foothills of the Himalayas in the Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh near the Bhutan and Tibet borders. The Emmy-winning documentary “Tashi and the Monk” is based on Jhamtse Gatsal.

We seek an Economics teacher for high school grades 9 to 12, who will also teach History to grades 9 and 10.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Plan and prepare lesson plans and instructional materials with clear learning outcomes to facilitate active and well-rounded learning

• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing necessary rules and procedures

• Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies

• Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development

• Facilitate real-life application of academic material through active participation in the Community's experiential education initiatives

• Participate in department and school meetings as well as all other community-level activities

• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, teachers, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and needs

• Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments

• Observe and evaluate student's performance and development to achieve high levels of mastery

in the subject matter

• Make a conscious and mindful effort to live simply and happily with limited urban amenities • Have a desire to step out of one's comfort zone and connect with people from different cultural backgrounds

• Manage stress levels due to a flexible and dynamic work environment

• Perform all other activities/tasks as required to meet the needs of the community Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

We seek innovative and skilled teachers with:

• A heart and passion for teaching

• Strong subject knowledge and a sound understanding of the CBSE curriculum for Economics and History

• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

• Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis

• An interest in using ICT tools to support students’ learning

• Experience teaching secondary and higher secondary classes

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in their area of expertise

• A desire to serve the less fortunate and to raise children responsibly and mindfully

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in education

Selection Process:

• Shortlist applicants based on profiles
